Photography

Questions from photography is being asked in many DAT's frequently. If you know about basic concept of photography you will score easily. On this page you will find some notable tips regarding the topic. Basic things that examiner ask about photography is:-

  1. Types Of Lens
  2. Aperture
  3. Shutter Speed
  4. ISO Sensitivity
  5. Focal Length
  6. Filters
  7. Framing
  8. Focus
  9. Formats Of Images and Videos
  10. Graphic Design Software
So, Let's start

Types of Lens
There are basically 7 types of lens are used in SLR Photography.
  1. Telephoto Lens
  2. Wide Angle Lens
  3. Zoom Lens
  4. Normal Lens
  5. Macro(or Close-Up)lens
  6. Fish eye Lens
  7. Tilt Shift Lens
Aperture
Aperture refers to the width of the shutter opening in a camera when a picture is taken. A
wider aperture lets more light in and allows pictures to be taken in dimmer light.

Shutter Speed
There’s an inverse relationship between aperture and shutter speed. A fast
shutter speed does not let in as much light as a slow shutter speed. If you’re using a tight
aperture to achieve high depth of field, you will need to use a slower shutter speed (for
any given light conditions) than you would while using a wide aperture. Shutter speed is
also sometimes called exposure time.

ISO Sensitivity
The third factor besides shutter speed and aperture that determines the exposure of a
picture is the light sensitivity of the electronic array that takes in the light and forms the
picture. This is adjustable in most digital cameras and is usually called “ISO sensitivity.”

Focal Length
One of the key variables in a lens is its “focal length.” In fact, variation in focal length
determines the category into which most lenses fall: normal, wide angle, telephoto, zoom.
Focal length is defined as the distance between the center plane of the lens – which means
a line drawn sideways through the lens right in the middle of its thickness – and the
camera’s light sensor.

Filters
A filter is a transparent, but light-altering attachment that goes on the camera lens and
produces various effects. A lot of different filters were developed for analog photography,
but most of those aren’t necessary when using a digital camera.

Framing
Framing includes various aspects like Rule Of Thirds , Including Context , Layers and Depth etc. This all topics are given in the PDF attached at the end of this page.
Focus
It includes point of focus , Using All the Camera’s Focal Points , Depth of Field , Focus Modes, Panning, Lens Effects on Depth of Field these all topics are given in PDF below,

Formats of Images and Video
You can google it. Easily available on Internet.

Graphic Design Software
A grasp of computer graphics also allows you to modify the photo in a lot of different
ways.

Brief description of basic photography is given in the PDF.
